The Cancer Professionals Podcast
Macmillan’s Professional Development and Knowledge team has launched a new podcast series aimed at those working in health and social care who support people affected by cancer. The podcase will offer insight into the latest innovations, best practice and current issues faced by people affected by cancer and the cancer workforce. Episodes will feature discussions of clinical practice, personal experience and practical advice to improve your knowledge and skills in supporting people.
Episode one is a conversation with a Macmillan Palliative Care Dietician about the importance of nutrition in cancer care. This includes the ethics and challenges associated with nutrition at end of life and tips on how all professionals can support people.
Primary Care Conference
More than 150 healthcare professionals working in Primary Care gathered in Birmingham for Macmillan’s Primary Care Conference in October, hosted by Dr Anthony Cunliffe, Macmillan’s Lead Medical Adviser. Sessions highlighted the latest in cancer treatments, advancements in digital technologies and optimisation of emerging roles such as social prescribers and link workers.

LGBTQ+ easy read booklet
Our new LGBTQ+ people and cancer easy read booklet is now available for you to share with those you support. Easy read booklets are aimed at people with learning difficulties and those that find large amounts of text difficult to read.
We hope that by having a range of LGBTQ+ content, we will be able to help more people facing barriers with their cancer diagnosis.

Macmillan is launching the group in collaboration with the Centre of Perioperative Care and with the support of the Health Foundation.
e-Learning – Developing Cultural Competence in Cancer Care and Support
The Developing cultural competence in cancer care and support e-learning programme will help you to improve cultural competence when supporting people living with cancer. It will equip you with the skills and knowledge to better understand how culture shapes people’s beliefs and attitudes towards cancer, so you can provide more targeted support to people with cancer. It aims to contribute to improving the experience and outcomes of people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
It is made up of five modules, to access at a time that suits you:
- Introduction to cultural competence in cancer care and support
- What is culture?
- Culture and cancer
- Assumptions and stereotypes
- Culturally competent communication
This is an e-learning course, available through the Macmillan Learning Hub, and takes on average 1 hour to complete. You can do at your own pace and your progress will be saved if you want to complete it later.
