In 2024, a survey commissioned by the Cheshire and Merseyside Cancer Alliance highlighted significant gaps in knowledge among training doctors regarding cancer tumour markers and their appropriate use.
These eLearning modules has been designed to address those gaps, beginning with Part 1, which reviews the general principles of cancer tumour markers. While it is primarily aimed at junior doctors, including GP Specialist Trainees and Foundation Year Doctors, the module is also suitable for any clinicians or healthcare practitioners who wish to strengthen their understanding in this important area of practice.
What you'll learn:
Module 1:
- To understand what cancer tumour markers are.
- To understand the relevance of sensitivity and specificity of cancer tumour markers to aid their appropriate use and interpretation in Primary Care.
Module 2:
- To understand how cancer tumour markers are requested in Primary Care.
- To understand the relevant detail of specific common cancer tumour markers.
- To understand how appropriate some cancer tumour marker requests can aid early cancer diagnosis in the context of approved national and local cancer referral guidance.
- To inform the learner what non-cancerous conditions that raised tumour markers can also occur in.
- A summary of their appropriate application in Primary Care.
