Mindfulness Finding Peace in a Frantic World

The course is completed in 7 weekly, two-hour sessions and is based on the book: Finding Peace in a Frantic World by Mark Williams and Danny Penman. It provides an engaging and practical introduction to mindfulness. It is a programme that teaches mindfulness skills, how to improve wellbeing and increase resilience to stress. The course themes include waking up to the life you have, gathering the scattered mind, relating differently to thoughts and worries, practising kindness and includes nourishing activities.

The content includes:

Formal and informal mindfulness meditation practices, which involve using the breath and body as a focus for being aware of our present moment experience

Exploring the physiology of stress and how to self-regulate our moods, so we are more able to ‘take a breath’ when challenging situations arise and respond effectively

Recognising the patterns of worrying and self-criticism that often makes us feel worse, and how we can relate to ourselves in a kinder way.

Who is the course for:

Anyone who works in cancer services within Cheshire and Merseyside Cancer Alliance area.

Requirements from participants:

Come with an open mind (beginners mind)

Commit to all 7 sessions

Access a computer and Teams online

Access to a quite space where you will not be disturbed

Purchase or download own copy (used or new) of Finding Peace in Frantic World book by Mark Williams and Danny Penman, before the course (there is no cost for the course itself)

NB it is not advisable to do the course if you have had a recent life changing event in the last year, such as a bereavement of a significant person in your life.

Your course facilitator:

My name is Sandra Rowlands and I have practiced mindfulness/meditation for many years. I have undertaken and qualified in mindfulness teacher training courses both with Oxford, Bangor and Aberdeen Universities and have previously delivered mindfulness courses to cancer healthcare professionals and the wider cancer workforce both face to face and online.
