Funding Purpose
The funding aims to support new and existing Chemotherapy Nurses and Clinical Nurse Specialist in accessing training that meets their identified development needs.
Target Audience
This funding is directed towards newly appointed nurses, experienced nurses seeking advancement, and those pursuing advanced education in clinical, leadership, and research capabilities.

This funding provides access to a wide range of development training programs designed to help individuals grow professionally and personally.

It is encouraged to take full advantage of this opportunity and invest in future development. NHS England is making funding available to each Cancer Alliance and funding will be made available in the form of grants to enable staff to undertake training and education to develop in the role and to support the cancer workforce.
How can you utilise this opportunity effectively?
Step 1 - Due Diligence
Select a course that aligns with your role, reviewing its content, structure, and delivery to ensure suitability. Confirm your choice with your line manager and Lead Cancer Nurse before proceeding.
Step 2 - Expression of Interest
To express your interest and see what information is required you will need to complete an expression of interest form. If you are a Cancer Nurse Specialist (CNS) or Chemotherapy Nurse:

Step 3 - Approval and Securing your place
Your place will be secured once the Lead Cancer Nurse Care Quality Group (LCN CQG) approves your expression of interest. Please allow up to 30 days for approval.
Step 4 - CMCA will send details to NSHE
Cheshire and Merseyside Cancer Alliance (CMCA) will submit your course training and funding requirements to NHS England (NHSE).
Step 5 - Confirmation Letter
Once approved you will receive a letter of confirmation from NHSE via CMCA.
Step 6 - Receive Funding
Funding will be released to your NHS Trust.

What can the funding be used for?
- Purchase of a single activity or programme (where the programme is modular details of each module will be required)
- Training grant (e.g. ‘backfill’)
- Clinical supervision / mentorship
- Travel and accommodation costs
- Grants can be provided for education and training activities that run for longer than 1 year but funding is for 2024/25 only run for longer than 1 year but funding is for 2025/26 only
What type of activity can be supported?
- Accredited or non-accredited short courses on specialist areas of practice
- Postgraduate study in specialist area: e.g. PGCert, PGDip, master's degree
- Areas of study are expected to be relevant to the development journey and role of the Chemotherapy Nurse and expected to fall within the category of cancer care
- Other area of study may be supported at the discretion of the cancer alliance if there is understanding of the contribution the development will have on individuals
What is the Anticipated outcome?
- A minimum of 7 individuals for Chemotherapy Nurses and 14 for Clinical Nurse Specialists will have their development supported through this funding
- Participants will be expected to demonstrate capability and integration of their new skills into local service provision
- Participants may be able to evidence career progression
