Aim -
This interactive 1-day workshop day aims to provide you with opportunity to:
• Consider why communicating in a compassionate manner matters.
• Recognise the different ways that people express distress and concerns.
• Identify Top Tips on helpful communication approaches – behaviours and skills that enable compassionate communication when people are distressed (i.e. upset, angry, worried, demanding etc).
• Identify some related communication situations that feel difficult for you in practice and learn some helpful approaches on ‘what to say’ that is appropriate to the boundaries of your role and supports compassionate communication.
Intended Audience -
Any care professional who communicates with people affected by serious or life limiting illness/frailty, but not directly responsible for assessment & planning of care or treatment.
Examples include: Health Care Assistants, Social Care Staff, Medical Secretaries, Ward Clerks, Support Staff, Porters.
